Dual Extract Chaga Tincture

(Inonotus obliquus) 

1 fl oz (30mL) Dual Extract Tincture. Dried mushroom^ infused in Maine distilled grain alcohol* and triple decocted in filtered spring water.  [^Consciously Wildcrafted. *Certified Organic.]

Suggested amount: 10-30 drops in 1oz of water 1-2 times/day. Shake well before use. Sediment is natural.

A coarse, rounded, deep black outer layer encases a vibrant core - the color of golden-hour drenched oak leaves in the fall.  This mushroom is as hard as the wood of the birch tree that it grows from. 

Chaga develops slowly over many seasons, emerging from cracks in the tree’s bark or at the site of a broken branch. Responsible gathering requires respect for this mycelial community and its continued vitality, always leaving more intact than what is removed. We are grateful to find this mushroom in the woods close to the farm and are intent not to disturb its life cycle.

Each processing decision we make is rooted in this respect and gratitude. We process chaga completely by hand, from gathering, breaking up each conch into smaller pieces, to grinding, and pressing after both the alcohol extraction and decoction. 

Working with Chaga has shown us how richly potent it is. Such wood-like texture is softened slightly by alcohol extraction and offers a strong coffee-black color along with its soluble nutrients. After pressing, the ground chaga is slowly decocted, for three cycles each lasting a few hours, in filtered spring water which we collect from its origin here on the land. This pressing is an inky dark chocolate color, rich with the water soluble aspects of the mushroom. 

This dual extraction process is necessary to bring the virtues of Chaga to the body in a way that can be received, absorbed, and used to fortify. *

When to reach for Chaga:

Chaga is a potent and nourishing daily tonic for the immune system and the adrenals. It contains antioxidant compounds which help the body respond to stress and repair damaged cells. Chaga is associated with supporting athletic endurance and in some cases inhibiting unregulated cell growth. This preparation is especially supportive to the body during seasonal transitions. Its dark earthy character and flavor is deeply grounding and soothing. *
