This is a hardy perennial in our garden, it seems to show signs of growth earliest in the spring. Light pink-purple flowers grow nestled in close to the lithe waving stalks and branches with deep green fingery-leaves reaching out from each node. These columns of blooms are often buzzing with busy pollinators. Motherwort is revered by herbalists for calming the nervous system, supporting the female reproductive system, strengthening the cardiovascular system, and soothing muscle spasm/tension. This plant is considered strongly bitter in flavor and so is not often chosen as a tea herb, supportive preparations are usually in the form of tincture.
